“Archer” has a running gag about the super spy’s love for his “spirit guide,” Burt Reynolds. Archer even has a passing resemblance to a young Reynolds (No! Not in Deliverance. In Gator! How can you not see that?). So it makes perfectly awesome sense that Reynolds will play himself on Season 3 of FX’s hilarious animated show.

“I think the only person on the planet who’s a bigger fan of Burt Reynolds than me is Sterling Archer,” said Archer creator Adam Reed. “Archer constantly tries to imitate Burt and always raves about Burt’s movies and all-around awesomeness. So to have Burt recording voice-overs for the show was just amazing.” [EW]

There’s another picture of animated Burt looking suave below via EW. He makes for a handsome cartoon; I just hope he still does all his own stunts.

Below is the trailer for the reborn version of “Beavis and Butt-Head,” which premieres on MTV Thursday, October 27th. It’s not exactly ground-breaking considering we got five minutes of new footage during Comic-Con, but at least this shows us more of the idiots we loved and grew up with in the ’90s, unless you’re too young to have watched it, in which case screw you and your youth.

ANYWAY, the plot hasn’t changed — Beavis and Butt-Head are still young morons stumbling through the world — but the most promising aspect looks to be the way the two watch MTV reality shows like “Jersey Shore” and “Teen Mom.” Or maybe I’m just an A-hole who likes seeing stupid things get made fun of. That’s entirely possible.

This supercut of Judy Jetson freaking out over boys is too much for me to handle. It goes on FOREVER. All that chick did was freak out over boys. I made it through about a minute and a half, and I couldn’t believe that I was less than a THIRD of the way through it. What a whore.

As a lengthy and disturbing side note, I was looking to sexy this post up a little bit, so I did a Google image search for “judy jetson cosplay.” Seemed harmless enough — except my SafeSearch filter was off. And that, friends, is a terrifying but magnetic rabbit hole to go down. I have seen things, people. Things that shouldn’t happen in cartoons. I saw Judy getting double-teamed by Star Trek characters. Jane and Judy getting railed by that furry house helper thing. With a couple clicks I saw R2D2 doing Princess Leia. Tron porn? Yup. And then there’s the Disney stuff. YIKES. You can’t un-see King Triton from Disney’s The Little Mermaid fingering his butthole while ejaculating. That sh*t is DARK, man. It was like a horrible hentai car wreck that I couldn’t look away from.

So please, enjoy this tame little Judy Jetson cosplay picture — but know that it came with a price.

The couch gag for last night’s “Simpsons” episode was animated by “Ren & Stimpy” creator John Kricfalusi, and it’s precisely as crude and weird as “Ren & Stimpy” was, with all the carefully defined cartoon buttocks you would prefer not to see. Other websites have posted lousy buttcam video of the clip, but I’ve got the OFFICIAL high-quality version released by Fox (see below) because I want you to have only the best possible blog-reading experience. Warming Glow: the TV blog that cares about YOU (unless it’s inconvenient or undesirable to me).

Okay, this is a lot to process. The video below aired during the “MAD” sketch show on Cartoon Network, and it is a dizzying assault of memes. At its core, it’s a battle between the new Thundercats and Dogfort characters, but along the way there’s a lot of impact font and lolcats and ragetoons and other memes. It all makes perfect sense to me, but normal people — that is, people who don’t spend 12 hours a day on Tumblr and Reddit and Uproxx — will be absolutely baffled by it.

But that’s all moot. I’m just posting the video because Lobster Dog was finally on TV, as a cloned foot soldier in the Dogfort army. Oh man, can you imagine a platoon of Lobster Dogs? I can. I dream about it every night.

That quote’s all you really need to know about this Funny or Die video starring Don Cheadle as Captain Planet (embedded below). Possibly the crappiest superhero ever conceived, Captain Planet was easily one of the worst cartoons of the 1990s, a paper-thin character attempting to broaden children’s respect for the environment by making it look like supervillains took joy in cutting trees down and polluting water. This video starts with that conceit, but Captain Planet soon turns into an angry badass who F’s people up and flies away saying, “Don’t summon me again unless you ready for that pain. Peace, dickholes!” It might be Cheadle’s best exit line since Maurice Miller crushed goldfish in Albert Brooks’s hand and told him, “That’s how you do the shake.”

Smurfin’ Smurfs. Like most Americans raised on TV, I learned about the Smurfs not from the 1950s comic strip in which they first appeared, but from the Hanna-Barbera series that ran from 1981-1989 on NBC. Who could forget when Greedy Smurf got greedy or when Brainy Smurf said something smart? Not I, says everyone. But as much as the new Neil Patrick Harris-starring Smurfs movie would like you to remember otherwise: the Smurfs kind of suck, and the TV show really sucks. But! It’s not the worst series to come from Hanna-Barbera — which, to its credit, did create some great series like “The Flintstones,” “Space Ghost,” and “Johnny Bravo.” But this is the Internet, so let’s talk about the ones that sucked hardest.

Here they smurfin’ are.

Any Flintstones Production That Isn’t “The Flintstones”

The original “Flintstones,” which ran on ABC from 1960-1966, is a great show, and not only because there wouldn’t be a “Simpsons” without it. Unlike most televised animation of the time, it took its cues not from other cartoons, but from great sitcoms, like “The Honeymooners.” Hanna-Barbera knew that just because “The Flintstones” was a cartoon, that didn’t mean they’d have to constrain the show to only appeal to children.

Unlike every “Flintstones” spin-off and special, that is. Notable turds in this category include “The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show” (1971-1972), “The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone” (1979), and “The Flintstones: Fred’s Final Fling” (1980), as well as the John Goodman and Mark Addy-starring films in 1994 and 2000. Nobody cared about Fred meeting the Thing; people watched the show because (a) it was funny, and (b) it was oddly relatable, that even in the Stone Age, an overweight oaf could be loved by a charming female. Seth MacFarlane, who will remake the show for Fox in 2013, understood this when he said, “I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat, stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him.” Like anything from the guy who brought us “Family Guy,” I’m skeptical, but it can’t be any worse than “The Flintstones: Jogging Fever.”

“Partridge Family 2200 A.D.” (1974-1975)

Hanna-Barbera wanted to make an updated version of “The Jetsons.” CBS, however, asked that they instead find a way to mooch off the success of “The Partridge Family.” The two awful ideas came together, and like the beauty of a child being born, “Partridge Family 2200 A.D.” came out of TV’s womb, all wet and slimy and screaming. Nothing about the show makes sense—Why are they in the future? Was including “A.D.” in the title really necessary, other than they needed something to rhyme with “see’ in the theme song? Why was Danny Bonaduce allowed to have a platform to do anything?—and because it was such an obvious “Jetsons” clone (another question: why did Hanna-Barbera rip off their own show?), nobody watched. I’d rather much the year 2200 look like it did in The Matrix than the shudder-inducing future of “Partridge Family 2200 A.D.”

“A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” (1988-1991)

One of TV’s more regrettable trends over the past 30 years was when networks thought it was a good idea to “baby-fy” shows. It began with “Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies” in 1984 (the first time I ever heard of Star Wars was in an episode of that show) and has since given the world “Baby Looney Tunes” and “Yo Yogi!” Hanna-Barbera, never one to not take an idea from another company, came up with “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo,” featuring pre-teen versions of the Mystery, Inc. Gang. The show had one funny joke (every episode, Fred would blame a character named “Red Herring” for a crime he never committed), but what still doesn’t make sense to me is why Hanna-Barbera would create an entire series around an annoying younger version of Scooby-Doo when they already had the equally annoying Scrappy-Doo in their arsenal? There’s only one diminutive character worse than Scrappy…

Here’s the first look at the new iteration of “Beavis and Butt-Head,” resurrected by MTV 14 years after the last episode aired. Judging from this clip, the only thing that’s changed is that Beavis and Butt-Head are now reacting to “Jersey Shore” and MTV reality shows instead of videos — a sensible (and very funny) development.

“I felt like TV was getting too smart,” says Mike Judge on the Comic-Con panel when asked why he’s bringing back the show…

Judge then screened the long version of the Beavis preview. It included segments taking on 16 & Pregnant, Teen Mom and the Twilight films (where the duo try to find somebody to turn them into vampires to pick up girls). Fans went absolutely nuts over the footage, and it’s like the show had never been away. [EW]

For better or worse, it really does feel like the show hasn’t been away. Although the story segments of this clip — Beavis’s “Bungholio” alter ego is worshiped by a cult — didn’t feel as funny to me, I’m willing to admit that that’s because I’m in my 30s now, and not my teens. Fifteen years ago, the phrase “TP for my bunghole” would send me into fits of laughter. Now I need rape jokes. People change.

With Transformers: Dark of the Moon opening this week, there’s been a lot of talk about Michael Bay’s unapologetic anti-intellectualism, the 3-D craze, and movie audiences’ weak spot for explosions and giant robots fighting each other. In all the hype, we forget what the Transformers story is REALLY about: a quest for Hasbro to sell robot toys that dates back a quarter-century to the TV series debut in 1984.

Yes, as much as we love to think TV is some sort of high art form, it’s basically just a way for companies to advertise their goods and services to you. The way it’s supposed to work for a half-hour show is 22 minutes of programming and 8 minutes of commercials. But businesses quickly found a way around that, and they’ve been essentially airing 30 minutes of advertising to unsuspecting children for decades now. Below are ten of the most blatant examples — with “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe” excluded, because this is the advanced class. Intro to Obvious Examples is down the hall.

“Hot Wheels”

One of the earliest examples of the toy-to-TV transition, ABC’s animated “Hot Wheels” had a vague plot about good guy Jack “Rabbit” Wheeler and his Hot Wheels Racing Club having weekly races against bad guy Dexter Carter, the leader of Dexter’s Demons. The show is still notable for two reasons: it was the first “acting” role for Albert Brooks, who would later write Lost In America and guest star on “The Simpsons” as Hank Scorpio, and it became embroiled in a legal controversy. Toy companies, including Mattel’s rival Topper, began to complain that “Hot Wheels” was basically a half-hour commercial aimed at children, which was illegal. The FCC stepped in and ordered the show off the air, saying, “We find this pattern disturbing…for [it] subordinates programming in the interest of the public to programming in the interest of salability.” This ruling stayed in effect until 1984, when, according to the New York Times, “there [were] no limits of any kind on the amount of advertising stations can broadcast.” Which led to a lot of this:

“Robotix”

In 1984, Milton Bradley debuted two lines of toys, Transformers and Robotix, that were quickly made in to TV shows. They both had roughly the same story—with “Transformers,” it’s Autobots vs. Decepticons and humans get in the way; with “Robotix,” it’s Protectons vs. Terrakors and humans get in the way—but only one is still mentioned today. And makes hundreds of millions of dollars for an egomaniac of a director and keeps Shia LaBeouf a household name. I honestly think it’s because the word “Transformers” is cooler sounding than “Robotix,” which just reminds people of Lyme disease. Robotic Lyme disease, but Lyme disease nonetheless. Fifteen six-minute shorts aired on TV as part of “Super Sunday,” and they were combined into a poorly thought out film in 1987.

“Jem and the Holograms”

“Jem” was another “Super Sunday” short, along with “Inhumanoids” and “Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines” (which had NOTHING to do with Sasquatch but did star a monster-truck driver named Yank Justice), and it’s probably the most infamous of the group. I’d like to say I did my part when I listed Jem, sans Holograms, as the sixth sexiest cartoon musician of all-time, but really the credit goes to Griffin-Bacal Advertising, who Hasbro hired to create the show in 1984. They did such a good job that the short got its own full-length show and has since been released on DVD. With the success of “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” it’s likely a “Jem” movie will be made soon.
