“My Extreme Animal Phobia” is one of the greatest sources of unintentional comedy on television — who can forget Marvin, the tattooed badass who cried at the sight of a pit bull puppy? — and the Animal Planet series hits paydirt once more with Sandra, who attempts to face her fear of cats. Sandra must walk down a hallway of cats behind glass doors, and though they can’t touch her, the animals’ plaintive meows bring Sandra to tears. Her crippling phobia isn’t quite as hilarious as Marvin’s, but it’s still worth it for the moral support she gets from the show’s other star:

The cuts to that lady in the confessional  room really make this video worthwhile. “The cats are behind GLASS! What’s her problem?” Thank you, No-Nonsense Black Woman. You say what we think.

It’s been a rough 24 hours. The last best hope for an NBA season fell apart. “Community” got pulled from NBC’s midseason schedule. The NYPD prevented journalists from accessing its Gestapo-like raid on Occupy Wall Street. And then we watched the Jerry Sandusky interview, and suddenly it feels like the entire world is filled with evil and stupidity and greed and more evil.

And I can’t argue against that. The good, the intelligent, the charitable, the kind, the reasonable: these are the people who are ground beneath the boot heel of history. Fodder for a machine that turns humanity into capital. It only gets worse from here.

So f*ck it all, here’s the cutest kitten I’ve ever seen. Let’s spend some happy moments with it while the world ends around us.

Okay, this is a lot to process. The video below aired during the “MAD” sketch show on Cartoon Network, and it is a dizzying assault of memes. At its core, it’s a battle between the new Thundercats and Dogfort characters, but along the way there’s a lot of impact font and lolcats and ragetoons and other memes. It all makes perfect sense to me, but normal people — that is, people who don’t spend 12 hours a day on Tumblr and Reddit and Uproxx — will be absolutely baffled by it.

But that’s all moot. I’m just posting the video because Lobster Dog was finally on TV, as a cloned foot soldier in the Dogfort army. Oh man, can you imagine a platoon of Lobster Dogs? I can. I dream about it every night.

Video Music Awards (MTV/VH1, Sunday) — Of course, MTV hasn’t played music videos in years, but it’s an annual rite of summer: MTV spends a week praising itself for creating this awards show and remembering all the CRAZY and UNPREDICTABLE moments before airing something that’s less an awards show than it is repeated attempts to create the next CRAZY and UNPREDICTABLE moment for next year’s montage. I’m sure I’ll end up writing about it Monday, unless Hurricane Irene can save me by knocking out New York City’s power grid. Fingers crossed, people. Doctor Who (BBC America, Saturday) — Summer premiere. The more love I see for this show, the harder I dismissively wank in my little corner of the internet. But hey, at least Hitler gets punched.

Man Vs. Wild (Discovery, Friday) — Season finale. Since when is this on Fridays? The season concludes by looking at the average humans behind the camera.

Jersey Shore (MTV, Sunday) — MTV’s airing a new episode to lead into the VMAs. I no longer make the effort to watch “Jersey Shore,” but I’m addicted to MTV’s official Tumblr for the show, which is nothing but endless, sweaty, mattress-throwing GIFs. A+.

George W. Bush: The 9/11 Interview (NatGeo, Sunday) — The former president opens up about his decisions following the terrorist attack. It will be almost as intellectual as the VMAs.

Nat Geo WILD will air a special called “The Lady With 700 Cats” on July 30th — a Saturday night, because that’s prime TV-watching time for single people who own cats. The program is narrated by Jane Lynch and focuses on Lynea Lattanzio, who runs California’s largest cat sanctuary. From press materials:

Her own cat was all she wanted as a little girl. Her mother said, “No.” Now she has more than 700.

“I bet she’s sorry now!” says Lynea Lattanzio, referring to her mother’s forbiddance of felines in the house.  Founder and owner of California’s largest no-cage, no-kill cat sanctuary, Lattanzio lives with more than 700 cats.

I’ve got two preview videos below, and the images are staggering. SO. MANY. CATS. Boxes of kittens, old pissed-off cats, a constant soundtrack of mewling — as someone who’s allergic to cats, I have trouble breathing just watching it. However, as someone who works on the Internet, I can tell that this is gold, Jerry, GOLD! *puts on LMFAO with Lil Jon* CATS! CATS! CATS CATS CATS! CATS! CATS! CATS CATS CATS! CATS!

As you might assume about a woman with 700 cats, Lynea doesn’t have a family. And though her people skills aren’t terrific (as seen in the video below), she does seem to be the least crazy of the crazy cat ladies I’ve seen.

WARNING: The second video’s kind of a downer. Worth watching for the kitten CPR, though.

As I’ve said before, the Nyan Cat meme doesn’t particularly appeal to me, but this video of the “Star Trek” crew encountering the 8-bit poptart space cat made me chuckle. There’s just something about William Shatner’s dramatic reaction and Leonard Nimoy’s subtle eyebrow raise that gives the silly little animation some gravity. At the same time, it makes “Star Trek” more enjoyable for me than ever before. I guess the show just needed more cats.

That’s why I’d make a great studio executive. My notes for every TV show would be a sheet of loose leaf paper with a single handwritten demand: “MORE CATS.”

For as much time as I spend on the internet, I’ve never been particularly captivated by Nyan Cat (aka Pop Tart Cat), the 8-bit animation of a cat with a pop tart body that craps rainbows as it floats through space. Nevertheless, this IS still the internet, and the internet still loves cats, so here’s a live-action Nyan Cat that appeared on French TV, woefully devoid of pop tart body. Those French can’t get anything right besides cheese and first ladies.
