Tosh Renewed for 4th Season

06.14.11 Written by Matt

Comedy Central has renewed “Tosh.0″ for a fourth season, no surprise given the show’s edgy content and excellent ratings (it averages 4.2 million viewers an episode, making it the most-watched show on the network).

The network has picked up 26 episodes for 2012 (though that is down a couple hours from this year, which had 30 episodes).

“Daniel is still trying to figure out what his show is and we thought it would only be right to give him another season to work it out, especially since so many millions of people are watching it,” said Comedy Central programming chief Kent Alterman. [Inside TV]

Okay, this will be the last time “Tosh.0″ getting renewed is news. If clip shows and talk shows perform well, they just keep going in perpetuity. The idea that Comedy Central would think twice about renewing their biggest show is preposterous, as is the notion of “seasons” for “Tosh.” “Ooohh, it’s one from the casual jacket season!”–Nobody.

What’s on Tonight: Tosh Is Back

05.17.11 Written by Matt

Tosh.0 (Comedy Central) — Season premiere. Well, not so much a season premiere as it is the beginning of a new batch of episodes. “Tosh” isn’t exactly the kind of show with seasons — not unless you live and die by the wardrobe tweaks. ANYWAY, tonight Daniel gets in the ring to take a punch from Manny Pacquiao. Should be worth watching.

One Tree Hill (CW) — Season finale. Eight years. This show has existed for eight years. Anyone who watched this show as a teenager is now old enough to know better.

NCIS (CBS) — Season finale. Did you know that Mark Harmon almost replaced Don Johnson on “Miami Vice”? Harmon hasn’t stopped feathering his hair in the quarter-century since that happened. Also on CBS: The Good Wife airs its Season 2 finale.

Glee (Fox) — Yup, it’s sweeps: somebody dies in tonight’s episode. I remember watching “90210″ in high school and being all excited because the promos said someone was going to die. Then it ended up being David’s retarded cowboy friend who was barely in the show, and I was pissed. “Glee” would have to go a long way to have a lamer death than that.

Dancing with the Stars (ABC) — Stevie Nicks performs on the results show. Afterwards, she and Kirstie Alley can compare before and after photos. Before and after getting fat, I mean. In case that wasn’t clear.

Daniel Tosh Versus Reddit

03.11.11 Written by Matt

As evidenced by Ken Jennings’s witty repartee with Internet geeks, Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” forums have become increasingly newsworthy in recent weeks. Yesterday, a staffer for “Tosh.0″ published the banner image here as an AMA. It was a funny twist: Daniel Tosh, obviously knowing that white signboards are an invitation for Photoshop mockery, made himself a target to some of the savviest and smartest web users on the internet, and the Redditors happily played along by taking his bait. (Well, many played along; several bleeding gashes complained that Tosh snubbed their precious Valhalla of information-sharing.)

The entire thread is here, but I’ve saved you some time (and whining from Reddit users) by compiling the best Photoshops on the following pages — and I even put them in a nice, progressive order. Be sure to leave some jokes in the comments so that Tosh can use them on his show.

Tosh on ‘American Idol’

08.27.10 Written by Matt

I still haven’t watched this week’s “Tosh.0″ yet, but this series of jokes about “American Idol” (via The Live Feed) is absolutely delightful. I don’t really have anything else to add to that. I’m gonna let Tosh tell the jokes. Sorry, people, but I can’t fake it when I don’t have my A-game. It’s Friday, I have crippling ADD, it’s nice outside, and half of the people that read this website are on vacation. (I know this because my parents are on vacation.) Just enjoy the video, okay?

Tosh Getting Bigger Ratings Than Stewart and Colbert

07.14.10 Written by Matt

In a testament to how I’m always right about what’s good, Daniel Tosh’s “Tosh.0″ is garnering bigger ratings than Comedy Central’s two late-night giants, “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report.” In the last six weeks, Tosh’s summer season has gotten more viewers than any Comedy Central show in that time slot since “Chappelle’s Show” in 2004.

“It’s a show that came in under the radar and it’s a truly word-of-mouth kind of show,” said Kent Alterman, head of original programing at Comedy Central. “He hasn’t been written about that much [Ed. Note: Hey, f*ck you, pal]. There’s really just one factor that stands out — the show is really funny.”

“Tosh” is averaging 2.2 million viewers this season vs. 2 million for “The Daily Show” and 1.4 million for “Colbert Report.” Overall, it is the third most-popular show on the network (behind “South Park” and “Futurama”). [THR]

Of course, Tosh airs in primetime, not late night, and his show is weekly compared to the four nights a week Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are on the air. And that raises the question: could “Tosh.0″ air Mondays through Thursdays with the big dogs? I don’t know; it’s pretty hard to find people who can find funny Web clips and write offensive jokes about them every day. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to catch up on my tentacle rape hentai videos.
