The Best Of The 9th Annual Corgi Celebration

The Best of the 9th Annual Corgi Celebration

When Matt sent me an e-mail last month confirming whether or not I was in Austin, Texas, and asking me if I’d go to a local corgi gathering and cover it for him, I jumped at the opportunity. Being the editor of With Leather is fun and all, but as a sports blog we don’t really get the opportunity to share adorable dog pictures, and the closest we’ve got to a recurring animal feature is Kate Upton at the circus.

Long story short, I spent my Saturday morning ankle-deep in cute dogs at Buda, Texas’ 9th Annual Corgi Celebration: A Royal Affair. The website made it look like a Ren-faire for dogs so I was a little disappointed at the lack of dog-back jousting, but the demonstrations, agility testing and costume contest (!) more than made up for it.

A few disclaimers, before we begin:

- I was personally introduced to tons of dogs, but I don’t remember all of their names. If you happen through this and are the dog/owner of a dog pictured, be sure to send in your info and we’ll get you clearly identified. The same goes for any time I went with the wrong gender pronoun. I’m also willing to identify your pet as a “dog-bodied person”.

- These pictures were all taken by me, so I get the © notation, but we don’t plaster Warming Glow watermarks all over everything so if you want to borrow a picture it’s fine, just link back to us. Also send me money, because this is serious business.

- Again, thanks to Matt for giving me the heads up on this and letting me cover it for the site.

Please to enjoy the very best of the 9th Annual Corgi Celebration: A Royal Affair.

I feel like every time I fill in, I post some sort of “Community” mash-up or song thingy. I get that some of you may not have the love for the show that Matt and I do. That’s fine. But you will NOT disrespect DJ Steve Porter on my watch. Do you hear me? NEVER.

WG Behind the Scenes: When I emailed this story to Matt yesterday, the entire body read “HOLY SH-T. MATT. THIS LINK,” and he responded, “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.” TNT Orders Pilot About Crime-Solving Dog [Warming Glow]

What? It’s all about her? Doesn’t sound like the Tyra I know. Tyra Banks’ iTunes playlist must be seen to be believed. [Best Week Ever]

The Osirian Portal goes viral. If you watch CHIKARA pro wrestling, you know that stuff like this (and much funnier, less fat-looking stuff like this) happens all the time.  If you don’t, head on over to YouTube and angrily argue about how you hate wrestling because it’s fake and they’re trying to trick you!  You used to like it!  It used to be believable!  People need to know that!  [YouTube]

The Puppy Lingerie Bowl. Combining two of my favorite things: baby dogs and complicated underwear.  Slightly more athletic than the actual Lingerie Bowl.  [TBS]

The hardest Super Bowl hot wing recipe ever forged. Turn all your macho sports friends vegan with a wing recipe from “Top Chef” that takes seven days and produces one-and-one-half tiny ass horrible tasting wing! [Best Week Ever]

Remember the Chocolate Rain Dr. Pepper commercial? No?  Double Rainbow Guy stars in a New Zealand ad for “Vodaphone Supa Prepay,” whatever that is.  [PopWatch]

‘YOUR MOTHER’ LIKES CATS IN CLOTHES

09.29.09 Written by Matt

pretty-kitties

As semi-accurately revealed in yesterday’s What’s on Tonight, last night’s episode of “How I Met Your Mother” featured cats in bridesmaid dresses during a dream-sequence wedding near the end of the show. And I understand that you probably saw this picture yesterday, but it just didn’t feel right to not give this subject its own dedicated post. I want to use positive reinforcement to foster an environment where television shows are encouraged to put animals in costumes as much as possible. For example, Sunday night’s “Mad Men” was one of the darkest, most complex, and most jarring episodes in the show’s history… but wouldn’t it have been EVEN BETTER if it had a wiener dog in a fedora? I say yes.

Anyway, I’ve often grumbled about how “Your Mother” is frustratingly uneven because the show’s premise is anchored to its least likable character, but more episodes with cats in clothes will silence my complaints.

ADORABLE UPDATE: As requested, I’ve added a picture of a philandering, Don Draper-esque wiener dog sporting a fedora. And also some other picture of wiener dogs in costumes, because — oh c’mon, do I really need a reason?

THIS WEEK IN CLOTHED ANIMAL COMMERCIALS

09.23.09 Written by Matt

puppies-pajamas

On the heels of the Windows 7 commercial that used a kitten in marshmallows and a bunny wearing a hat come two more TV spots of note that use adorable animals dressed in clothes (see below). The first is a New York Lottery ad featuring baby animals wearing pajamas that is heartbreakingly adorable. Kittens, puppies, piglets, baby chicks — all in pajamas, all very sleepy. I want to make delicate, tender love to the creative team behind that commercial.

The second video is less adorable but still charming in that it features a dog wearing clothes and a fake mustache. It reminds me that I need to make a Halloween costume for my dog. I was thinking of making a Star Trek dog outfit, since I have plenty of cardboard boxes and Bud Light empties, but now I think I want to get a mustache involved somehow. Maybe she can go as Freddie Mercury?
