Paula Deen Is a Saint

09.16.11 Written by Matt

Paula Deen has been criticized for promoting an unhealthy diet rich with butter and sugar — an odd thing for her to do, considering she has diabetes. In the video below, she shows how much she’s willing to give back by going to a school and helping with a program that gives food to children so they don’t go hungry over the weekend. Specifically, she hands out Ramen noodles.

Now, I like Ramen noodles. You can get six packs for a dollar. They’re tasty and easy to make. But they also have almost no nutritional value and are loaded with fat and sodium. Sure, eating Ramen is better than not eating, but if Paula Deen wants to feel all great about herself for feeding kids, why not hand out pieces of fruit? Apples cost 99 cents a pound. Bananas are 86 cents a pound. Instead, she practically breaks her arm patting herself on the back for handing out a bunch of early onset diabetes. “Here you go, kids! Join me! You too can destroy your body’s ability to make insulin!”

What I’m try to say is, Paula Deen is f*cking terrible.

Too Bad, Fatties

08.31.11 Written by Matt

I touched on TLC’s new show “Big Sexy” a little bit yesterday, but it merits follow-up now that I’ve got video. The show focuses on five plus-sized women working in the fashion industry (from stylist to designer to model). Apparently, the show isn’t without heart or intelligence — a surprising move for TLC — but I couldn’t help but be turned off by this scene, in which four of the women try to attend a fashion show after-party, only to face “unfair” treatment by bouncers. Skinny, attractive women are allowed to jump the line and get in for free, while the heavy women must wait in line before being told they must pay $30 to enter the club. And the “Big Sexy” women express shock and outrage at this as if it’s their first day being fat. Seriously, it’s a New York fashion week after-party at a fancy club. What kind of treatment was this woman expecting?

Woman Can’t Stop Eating Dead Husband

08.11.11 Written by Matt

Hey, It’s been a while since we checked in on TLC’s “My Strange Addiction.” Who’s the freak of the week?

The series finale [on Sunday] featured a woman who is so close to the memory of her late husband that she eats his ashes. 26-year-old Casie, who was widowed just two months before filming the show, is unable to stop herself from dipping her finger into her husband’s urn of ashes and taking a lick of the grey dust. [Daily Mail]

Casie says the ashes taste like “rotten eggs, sand, and sandpaper,” a combination she’s “grown to love.” In two months, Casie has eaten about one pound of the ashes. There are only about five pounds left. Despite the fact that the ashes contain a combination of chemicals from the embalming fluid which actually cause psychosis when ingested, Casie’s biggest concern is that she will eat the ashes until they are all gone and then she won’t have any ashes to hang out with. [Jezebel]

Judging by the look of her, the ashes aren’t the only thing she’s addicted to eating, KNOW’M SAYIN’? Awww, I’m just kidding. I feel bad for the chubby crazy widow, and it’s nice to know that she checked herself into an inpatient care facility that didn’t let her bring the ashes in. Next habit to break: seconds.

Video below.

The “Sunny” Promo Is Fat, As Advertised

08.01.11 Written by Danger Guerrero

As Matt discussed a couple weeks ago, Rob McElhenney (Mac) from “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” put on fifty pounds for the show’s seventh season. I’ve posted the promo after the jump, and, sure enough, he’s fat. Yup. Definitely fat.

I like to paint myself as some fancy-schmancy comedy snob, so my gut reaction to this whole story was something along the lines of “Pfft. Fat jokes? Really?” But then two things happened: First, I started watching reruns of “Sunny” on Comedy Central Monday nights and remembered how much I like the show. I decided that, at the very least, they deserve the benefit of the doubt on this one. I mean, they haven’t steered me wrong yet, right? And the second thing was that I saw one of my overweight friends fall off his chair and I laughed for like twenty minutes straight.

What can I say? I’m a man of the people.

First Look: Rob McElhenney as Fat Mac

06.24.11 Written by Matt

Last week, we learned that the previously fit and rakish Rob McElhenney gained fifty pounds to play Mac on the upcoming season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” for no better reason than he thought it would be funny if his character got fat.

However, we hadn’t seen the results of McElhenney’s gluttonous, sedentary lifestyle until now — and they’re GLORIOUS. As you can see, he’s embracing the change by wearing a Hawaiian shirt, the official uniform of overweight men. Even his beard gained weight. And I can’t tell what he’s holding in his right hand — I studied the full-size photo to no avail — but in my mind, it’s a bottle of barbecue sauce.

(thanks for the tip, @ScottyKnoxville)
