G4 Pulls Ryan Dunn’s Reality Show

06.20.11 Written by Matt

Because “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn drove his Porsche off the road and died in a fiery explosion, G4 is pulling his show “Proving Ground” from its schedule. In a related story, Dunn was in a G4 show called “Proving Ground.”

But now, the rest of Ground — a show which tested out wild video game and movie stunts in the real world, a perfect fit for the always-game Dunn — may not see the light of day.

G4 tells EW that as of June 20, “the show is off the schedule … until we discuss next steps.” (It premiered last week.)

“Proving Ground” has nine episodes in the can and only got 31,000 viewers for its premiere, so G4′s decision to pull the show is respectful and sensible. They can get way more viewers if they move it to primetime and run it as part of a memorial special.

Olivia Munn Looks Fantastic in GQ – IMPORTANT UPDATE

09.07.10 Written by Matt

Olivia Munn, the hot-button nerd-baiter turned “Daily Show” correspondent, is featured in the newest GQ, and she looks absolutely terrific. People are making fun of the banner picture because she’s making an angry face with her hands in front of her crotch, but I like to think that she’s dancing to Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push It.” At least, that’s what I look like when I dance to “Push It.” With the exposed bra and everything.

Anyway, you can read the article here. It’s barely more than a blurb, but it talks about her ascent from “Attack of the Show!” to “The Daily Show” and NBC’s new sitcom “Perfect Couples,” as well as some of the ire she’s gotten because of it. And frankly, I’m tired of the Olivia Munn backlash. No, she isn’t the hottest woman on the planet, but she’s still very attractive. She may not be the greatest actress, but she’s better than a lot of other actresses who get plenty of work. And yeah, some of her antics on G4 may have been annoying. But she’s a hot girl with a sense of humor who isn’t afraid to wear a Slave Leia costume, and people bitch about her. This is why we can’t have nice things, Internet.

SEXY UPDATE: Because I asked them so nicely, the people at GQ shared some high-resolution images with Warming Glow (thumbnails 3 and 4). To see full size, click the thumbs, then right-click and select “view image.” Photo credit: Alexei Hay/GQ.

Pssst, don’t tell Jezebel, but I think the next image might be Photoshopped…

All the News That’s Fit to Link

08.26.10 Written by Matt

Mornin’, everybody. There’ve been a ton of stories I haven’t gotten around to covering this week, so I got this chihuahua in sunglasses to take you through some of the cool stuff you may have missed. You’ll find this post much meatier than the usual link dump. Enjoy. (image via Fashionista Puppies)

‘Party Down’ Is Dead. Long Live ‘Party Down’ — Rob Thomas, Jon Enbom, and Dan Etheridge — the creators of the brilliant and hilarious but little-watched “Party Down” — are developing a single-camera office comedy called “Temps” with the same executive producers as the defunct Starz comedy. NBC won an “aggressive” bidding war to develop the show. Yep, I’m gonna wanna see that. [Variety]

When people stop being polite, and start defusing bombs. G4 is making a docu-series inspired by The Hurt Locker called “Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan” that will follow a Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit throughout training and a deployment. EOD guys are probably my favorite people in the Navy: badasses who are less douchey than SEALs. [Cinematical]

Wait, that’s not the real poster? This subway poster for “She’s Got the Look” couldn’t be more perfectly defaced. [Best Week Ever]

Snooki: fashionably detested. I found this kind of fascinating: apparently, Snooki is getting free designer handbags — from designers’ competitors. [NY Observer]

Behold, cognitive dissonance! A man solves a Rubik’s cube while the theme to “Perfect Strangers” plays. [kayfabe]

Montel Williams: Professional Pot Dealer? Williams is looking to become “the celebrity face of the Bay Area medical marijuana business.” [SFist]

COMIC-CON’S ‘NERD RAVE’ BIG HIT WITH NERDS

07.27.09 Written by Matt

olivia-munn-hed

G4′s “Attack of the Show” had a panel at Comic-Con this weekend, and over 1000 Olivia Munn fanboys got turned away at the door. And those nerds missed out on a wild party. Well, relatively speaking. Wild for people who watch a basic-cable show about video games and tech gadgets.

Though organizers tried to convince Comic-Con that the G4 program was a big draw, the event was stuck in a relatively modest-sized ballroom. About 1,000 fans were turned away and what transpired was, according to one industry insider who attended, “the wildest Comic-Con panel I’ve ever seen … it was totally off the hook.”

Each chair had a kazoo and glow stick under their chairs. Hosts Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn had the audience play the show’s theme song on the kazoo, then lowered the lights turned the room into a “nerd rave.” Lewd comments to Munn from the audience were practically encouraged. [source]

There’s video of the nerd rave after the jump (and video of Munn’s cleavariffic nerd fantasy costumes hyah).  As you can see, nobody’s actually dancing with the glowsticks like ravers do.  Most people are just waving them around, pretending they’re light sabers.

95-EPISODE ‘NINJA WARRIOR’ MARATHON ON G4

06.17.09 Written by Matt

If you’ve never seen “Ninja Warrior,” then this weekend is your chance to catch up.  Starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, G4 will air all 95 episodes of Japan’s ultimate obstacle course show back-to-back-to-back-to-et cetera.  It’s a three-day lead-in to “Ninja Fest 4,” a special that includes American Ninja Challenge 4″ winner David Campbell (this guy) and Olivia Munn as they get ready to go to Japan to tackle Mt. Midoriyama.

What I’m saying is, nothing is going on in the news at the moment, so you may as well watch a badass video.  Unless you wanna finish that spreadsheet, Office Drone 36458-Alpha.  Yeah, that’s what I thought.  Click play already.
