‘Always Sunny’ Bloopers Are the Best

09.22.11 Written by Matt

Ordinarily I find gag reels a complete bore, especially if they’re from a sitcom — I prefer to hear the jokes told correctly. But this gag reel from Season 6 of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (video below) definitely breaks the mold. Not only was I laughing through most of this, but it cemented my desire to just follow Charlie Day around non-stop and listen to him interact with the rest of the world. Everything he does is funny. I want to hire him to break the news to me any time someone in my family dies. “Ha ha ha, my parents were in a horrible car accident?!? Oh, Charlie, that’s too rich!”

All-New Swear Words from ‘Always Sunny’

08.31.11 Written by Matt

FX has released a couple of new featurettes about Season 7 of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and by the looks of it, the show hasn’t lost a step despite its lengthy run. The season overview, above, has the following: two vomit scenes, shirtless Fat Mac, Frank trying to marry a hooker, Charlie working with young girls for a children’s beauty pageant, and more. I’m happy to report that everyone in the Gang is still a delightfully terrible person beyond redemption.

In the video below (“Filthy”), the cast goes over some of the more colorful language they’ve used. Lots of “assdick” and “dickhole” and “bitch,” but my favorite one might be “white stains.” Man, I love acquiring new dirty words. This must be how Picasso felt when he got a new tube of paint.

These Links Are Buzzing The Tower

I can see it's dangerous for you, but if the government trusts me, maybe you could. Also, woof.

Hey, it’s DG. I’m running the show for one more day, then Matt’s back tomorrow. Since it’s my last day, I’m seriously considering just doing four posts about “Saved by the Bell,” one about how much I hated Oliver from season one of “The O.C.,” and a 70-page slideshow of R&B videos from the 90s. I’ll never be allowed to fill-in again, but it might be worth it.

The lesson I’ve learned from this is that I should recruit old people to work for my Ponzi sche-… I mean my, uh, not… Ponzi… scheme. Nice save, DG. Survey finds Betty White to be the most trusted person in advertising. [Deadline]

I’ve got $40 that says everyone was in cahoots. In the wake of the Situation/Abercrombie flap, “Jersey Shore’s” ratings increased 5%. [THR]

It’s all downhill from here. Just a reminder: the banner pic I MS Painted for the TV chef post on Friday is probably the best thing I’ll ever do around here. [Warming Glow]

Are those… wait a second… they are! KITTEN MITTONS! The “It’s Always Sunny” awkward family photo is delightful.

8.35 is an awful lot of percents. The SNL cast member appearance pie chart is an interesting thing some nerd made. [Buzzfeed]

For the person too dumb too find TNT on their television. A 104-disc complete set of “Law & Order.” [NY Post]

Not if you watch it while doing push-ups, dummies. Survey says TV is bad for your health. Also bad for your health? Being stuck in a locker overnight until the janitor comes in the next morning. So watch it, scientists. [USA Today]

After the jump, more links and a GIF that pretty much encapsulates my whole blogging existence.

The Ten Most Vile Actions of the Paddy’s Pub Gang on ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

08.10.11 Written by Josh

The Gang on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” — which returns for its seventh season on September 15 — means to do well. They really do. It’s just that Dennis, Dee, Mac, Charlie, and Frank’s good intentions often clash with the fact that they’re awful, conniving, despicable, racist, and misogynistic people. Their moral decrepitude makes “Sunny” one of the best sitcoms on TV, and its success has paved the way for FX to make other great comedies like “Louie,” “Archer,” and “The League.”

To tide you over until the premiere a month from now, here are the ten most revolting and rotten things the Gang from Philadelphia has done over the show’s first six seasons and 71 episodes, not one of which has anything to do with poor, dead-toothed Maureen Ponderosa.

FX Renews ‘Wilfred’ & ‘Louie’ & ‘Sunny’

08.08.11 Written by Matt

As the Television Critics Association press tour continued its interminable run over the weekend, there was plenty of inside-baseball stuff about showrunners and pilots for new shows, but not much in the way of real news. The exception: FX president John Landgraf  announced that three of the network’s acclaimed comedies are being renewed: “Wilfred” will get a second season, “Louie” will get a third, and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” got an order for two more seasons, guaranteeing it will stay on the air for nine years and become the longest-running cable sitcom in history.

FX president John Landgraf pointed out that Sunny helped pioneer a low-cost / high-creative-freedom business model that it’s used for its other comedies as well… Landgraf says he looked to see if the Sunny team was getting burned out, but noted this upcoming season has the group “trying different stories on Sunny that seem to be working.” [EW]

Obviously, this is great news. “Wilfred” has emerged as the strangest and possibly darkest comedy on TV, “Louie” continues to be brilliant, and “Sunny” is the landmark show that opened the door for comedy at FX. But I still won’t be happy until everyone responsible for “Archer” gets locked in to a lifetime contract and the show gets renewed for infinity.
