Sheen’d with Jimmy Fallon

05.20.11 Written by Matt

Even though I can’t type the words the “Charlie Sheen” without heaving a bored sigh, Jimmy Fallon presented a funny angle to the most recent development in Sheen’s world on “Late Night” last night: now that Ashton Kutcher is replacing Sheen on “Two and a Half Men,” Sheen will replace Kutcher on “Punk’d.” (Yeah, it’s been off the air for four years. Just go with it.)

Predictably, Fallon’s Sheen (which is the best Sheen impression around) is less a prankster than he is just a huge dick. Sheen spills people’s drinks, steals their food, annoys them while they try to work — it’s humorous, but there was room to take the joke further. Frankly, I would have liked the last scene to be Sheen with a hooker. After they finish and she tries to leave, he stabs her and takes his money back. And then he’s all, “Sheen’d!” See, it’s funny because it’s probably true.

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler in ‘Jersey Floor’ with Jimmy Fallon

05.06.11 Written by Matt

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler guest starred in this “Jersey Floor” sketch that aired on last night’s episode of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” I probably would really like this if (a) I didn’t hate NBC’s video player, (b) I didn’t have to sit through a commercial to get to the skit, and (c) it didn’t go on for an interminable NINE MINUTES. Don’t get me wrong, Fallon’s DJ Pauly D impression is downright uncanny, but it’s not worth sitting through five minutes of just to get to the part where Fey and Poehler finally show up.

However, it IS worth watching after Fey and Poehler appear, just for the inexplicable wonder of how good Tina Fey looks. She’s 40, pregnant, and done up in a wig, fake tan, and excessive eye makeup — yet she’s never looked hotter to me. The lesson here, ladies, is that men will like you more if you dress slutty. Even if you’re pregnant. Especially if you’re pregnant.

Colbert & Fallon Sing ‘Friday’

04.04.11 Written by Matt

As promised, Stephen Colbert appeared on Friday night’s episode of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” to perform Rebecca Black’s atrocious yet catchy viral hit “Friday.” Not merely content to let America’s best satirist sing with arguably the best live band in the country, Fallon loaded the performance with surprise guest appearances and a spectacle of excess that calls to mind SNL’s “What Up With That” sketch, and in the process created a marvel of television: five minutes of pure FUN FUN FUN FUN that warmed even my tiny black heart.

Watch the video below, and keep in mind that this only happened because people donated tens of thousands of dollars to an education charity. What’s this strange, positive feeling inside of me? Is there a word for “not cynicism”?

Stephen Colbert to Perform Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ With the Roots?

03.29.11 Written by Matt

Last week, Stephen Colbert auctioned off a self-portrait for $26,000, then donated the money to the education charity DonorsChoose.org. In addition to that, Colbert announced that Jimmy Fallon would match the $26,000 donation — something that Fallon had no advance knowledge of. This led to a an unannounced appearance by Colbert on Fallon’s “Late Night” (see video below) in which Fallon made a key adjustment to the deal: if his viewers can raise the $26,000 by this Friday, Colbert will sing Rebecca Black’s “Friday” backed by the Roots.

If this is something you want to see — or even if you just care about children learning — you can donate HERE. Personally, I’d like it better if my donation went to Stephen Colbert setting fire to Ark Music Factory’s studios, but I’ll take what I can get.

Bob Dylan Sings ‘Charles in Charge’

03.18.11 Written by Matt

Jimmy Fallon continued his habit of mashing up rock legends with pop culture ephemera when he dressed up as Bob Dylan and sang the theme to “Charles in Charge” on “Late Night.” His Dylan impression is perhaps a small step down from his Neil Young impression, but that’s only because he IS Neil Young.

You know, I’d say we’re almost to the point where you no longer have to apologize for liking Fallon. He’s really made “Late Night” his own show — and a good one at that. I think it’s time we all let go of our anger for him breaking character on “SNL” every week. We should all try to be bigger people and show some forgiveness. Especially you, Janelle, because it’s not like I knew I had chlamydia.

Video below. NOTE: Elvis Dog does not make an appearance.
