Lizzy Caplan HBO Show? Yes Please.

07.30.10 Written by Matt

Lizzy Caplan, who won over critics “Party Down” and my boner in “True Blood,” is now developing a comedy for HBO that looks to be her first major starring role.

HBO is teaming with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez and actress Lizzy Caplan to develop a comedy series project based on actress/writer Julie Klausner’s memoir I Don’t Care About Your Band

The book, a gritty but comedic look at what it’s like to navigate the dating world in your 20s, chronicles Klausner’s experiences from her preadolescent sexual awakenings through the unsavory details of sleeping with a gallery of losers throughout her 20s. [Deadline]

In case you’ve got a scoreboard keeping track of this at home, Caplan’s rise to starring in an HBO series officially drops Lindsay Lohan to fourth place in the category of “Success of young actresses from Mean Girls” (Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried still have the top two spots).

Lacey Chabert, meanwhile, is a tampon commercial away from bumping Lohan to fifth. Ladies, let that be a reminder to you: leave the cocaine abuse to strippers and Lawrence Taylor.

Lizzy Caplan Is a Good Actress

04.30.10 Written by Matt

Now that the second season of “Party Down” has started (another new episode tonight, btw), I can freely profess my crush on Lizzy Caplan and have it be at least somewhat topical. She’s in the newest edition of Complex magazine, and the people responsible for photographing her were kind enough to put her in sexy black clothing and expensive shoes. Unfortunately, the interview’s kind of short, and the gallery isn’t quite as saucy as I would have liked. And so I did the only thing I could do to make it more interesting: I added cats and dogs to the pictures. I think Lizzy would have wanted it that way.

Below: video from the photo shoot.

Weekend Preview: ‘Party Down’ Premiere, NFL Draft, & Summer Glau

04.23.10 Written by Matt

Party Down (Starz, Friday) — Season 2 premiere. As I wrote on Wednesday, this show kicks comedic ass. It’s getting more positive reviews, it will stay afloat even if its stars leave, and just for the record, I’d like to get intimate with Lizzy Caplan. Maybe brush her hair or her something.

NFL Draft (ESPN/NFL Network, Friday & Saturday) — If you’re watching rounds 4-7 on Saturday, brother, you’ve got a problem. Even the ESPN talent on the air would rather be someplace else at that point.

Saturday Night Live (NBC) — Gabourey Sidibe hosts, with musical guests MGMT. Watch her promos with Andy Samberg here.

You Don’t Know Jack (HBO, Saturday) — Al Pacino stars as Jack Kevorkian. It’s getting some pretty decent reviews, but for as much as I’m always on HBO’s jock, I never watch their original movies.

Dr. Who (BBC America, Saturday) — The new installment made its American debut last week, and performed well (by BBCA standards). It’s not really my thing, I wouldn’t dare say anything bad about it. Sci-fi Anglophiles are a particularly snotty breed of geeks that I don’t want to mess with.
