Childish Gambino “Community” Mash-up? Ok!

08.18.11 Written by Danger Guerrero

Look people, there are certain things that are just going to get posted while I’m filling in. And high-quality “Community” mash-ups set to hip hop music that feature many of the show’s most memorable moments would fall into that category. So when some hero takes the NSFW song “Freaks and Geeks” by Childish Gambino (aka “Community’s” Donald Glover) and cuts together dozens of video clips to match the song’s lyrics to actions from the show, it’s going up.

One additional note: As someone who occasionally has put together corgi-related videos for this very blog, I cannot even fathom how much work it must have taken to put this together. Good God. Pulling that many 1-2 second clips out of the two full seasons of the show and matching them all up to the lyrics and beat of the song? My ADD kicked in just writing the sentence describing that process. So hey, good on you, Mr. JackANapes1969. You are a better, more patient man than I.

‘The Office’ Credits, ‘Dallas’-Style

08.08.11 Written by Matt

I try not to post every little mash-up that comes my way, but I’m secretly obsessed with TV shows’ opening credits, so I can’t help but be charmed by “The Office” credits re-worked to look like “Dallas” (the original “Dallas,” not the crappy-looking TNT continuation of the series). The “Dallas” theme and its character triptychs are just so iconic that I’d happily welcome a little bit more Texas soap opera into the workplace comedy. Especially if there’s a “Who Shot Jim and Pam?” story line.

‘Community’ Mash-up: 500 Days of Britta

04.29.11 Written by Matt

I don’t often like mash-ups, but I can’t deny that this one combining “Community” and (500) Days of Summer is done pretty well (video below). It’s not super-original or anything, but it’s really well-edited, and it’s got everything I want on a Friday: Hall and Oates, dancing, Joel McHale, and people in their underwear. Well, almost everything. I’d rather watch Alison Brie than Gillian Jacobs. TEAM ANNIE 4EVA!

‘Arrested Development’ as an Action Movie: Meh

07.06.10 Written by Matt

Here’s a fake trailer that takes pieces of “Arrested Development” and makes it look like an action movie. I dunno, I guess it’s okay. Even with dramatic music, the scenes of violence from “Arrested Development” are still pretty humorous.

But the important thing here isn’t whether or not you enjoy the video. The important thing is that I get through my day. I’m just going through the motions and checking boxes at this point. Hmmm, so this is how most people do their jobs. I gotta say, this is way easier than all that b.s. “trying” I do every day.

Saved by the Bell’s Oil Spill Episode

06.11.10 Written by Matt

The BP oil spill continues to be super-depressing, so Internet/pop culture geeks showed their support for the cleanup the only way they know how: by expressing themselves through memories of “Saved by the Bell.” That’s right, back in 1991, Bayside High struck black gold under their football field, making the school rich — RICH, I TELLS YA! — until an oil spill killed Mr. Quackers or whatever they had named their pet duck (a plot line that would be echoed — and done better — by “The Simpsons” four years later in the “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” episodes. Example: the headline “AWFUL SCHOOL AWFUL RICH”).

BuzzFeed has a list of 12 things learned from the oil spill episode (official name: “Pipe Dreams”), and there’s also the mash-up video below, a combination of “Pipe Dreams” and There Will Be Blood called “There Will Be Bell.” It’s okay, I guess, but I’d like it better if Screech got beaten to death with a bowling pin.
