‘DEXTER’ BREAKS SHOWTIME RECORDS

Sunday night’s Season 4 finale of “Dexter” smashed all sorts of Showtime records, including highest number of people chastising for me not writing about a show.

The brutal “Dexter” closer drew 2.6 million viewers, ranking as the most-watched series episode ever on Showtime, and the most-watched telecast on the network since a Mike Tyson fight in 1999. “Dexter” was 54% higher than last year’s finale. [THR]

I’ve never really gotten into “Dexter,” but I did manage to read all about the thrilling finale with the crazy twist. If you want to bathe in the memory of Season 4, you can read the strong recaps from the A.V. Club and Alan Sepinwall. You can also read the bitchy one from Salon, in which the writer — who avidly watches a show in which the protagonist is a serial killer — gets angry when a baby is sitting in blood. “Wah wah wah, this show that entertains me crossed an arbitrary line that exists only in my head. HOW DARE THEY!!!!!”

‘DEXTER’ SEASON 4 TRAILER: STILL MURDERIN’

07.24.09 Written by Matt

Here’s the trailer for the fourth season of Showtime’s “Dexter,” television’s #1 series about a lovable serial killer who kills other murderers.  It debuted yesterday at Comic-Con, and as you can see, Dexter is dealing with a new baby son, a fellow serial killer played by John Lithgow, and a wife who’s all, “I need you to go to the 24-hour pharmacy!”  And he’s like, “Uh, I’m tryin’ to kill people here!”  Then he looks at the murderer he has shrink-wrapped to a table and sighs, “Women!  Can’t live with ‘em, can’t kill them without raising police suspicion.  Am I right?”

In other Dexter-related news…

Showtime is creating 12 animated webisodes that will [act] as a “Dexter” prequel to the series. Titled “Earl Cuts,” the webisodes will explore how Dexter honed his killing craft. Michael C. Hall will do the voice, will be put online this fall. [The Live Feed]

That sounds necessary.  As a side note, I like working on the Internet and all — I’m in my underwear as I write this — but I’m still not sure how I feel about the word “webisode.”  I’m just not comfortable with the English language changing so quickly.  Not unless I can make cockumentaries.

HA-CHA-CHA-CHAAAAAAAAA!!!

dexter-season3Am I overdressed for the “Beat It” audition?

This isdexter-season3-full a promo for Season 3 of “Dexter,” and if you happen to follow the show, then you know that Season 3 has already aired.  Season 4 begins in September.  That means that there’s nothing timely or informative going on here, but I couldn’t help but be magnetically drawn to this image.  I guess Michael C. Hall’s doing a soft-shoe routine with a knife, and even though he’s a serial killer on stage by himself, his suit is woefully shredded with the knife in his own hand?  Best not to analyze, I suppose.  Just relax and enjoy “Dexter: The Musical.”  Really great music and choreography.  Could’ve used some blackface, though.
