John Locke & Ben Linus 2.0

09.21.10 Written by Matt

As much as I like to poke fun at “Lost,” I’ll never deny that Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson were absolutely terrific as John Locke and Benjamin Linus on the ABC hit. And it looks like we may see them together on television again in a new show.

Back in February, O’Quinn spoke about his desire to star in a show with Emerson in which the two play “suburban hit men juggling family issues.” Well, he was serious, and now J.J. Abrams is pitching the show to networks.

As always with all things Abrams, details are sketchy, but insiders said the potential show — which we’ve heard carries the working title Odd Jobs — would have a dose of humor. It’s not clear whether [frequent Abrams collaborators Josh] Appelbaum and [Andre] Nemec will include any elements of an idea floated by O’Quinn last winter that had the two former Lost-mates serving as suburban hit men. As more than one commenter noted the first time this story surfaced, this sounds like a good show… but it would sound like a BETTER show if they found a role for the Smoke Monster. But it’s hard out there for sentient particulate clouds in Hollywood, you know? You’re always getting typecast as the vengeful black cloud. It’s like, why even bother going to Juilliard? It played King Lear off Broadway, you know.

THE CAST OF ‘LOST’: ‘MMMM… CAKE’

03.18.10 Written by Matt

In this delightfully unexplained video, cast members of “Lost” say “Mmm… cake” in front of a green screen. Why? Because cake is delicious, dumbass. Although it seems like Jorge Garcia (who plays Hurley, aka the fat guy) should have a more enthusiastic response about cake than just “Mmm.” He should be like, “Oh my God, CAKE! Yes, yes, YES! GIVE ME SOME CAKE! I LOVE IT I LOVE IT DON’T STOP! FEED ME CAKE! CAKE CAKE CAKE!” And he should say it while touching himself. Because he’s fat, you see.

Hey, speaking of touching oneself: HELLO, Yunjin Kim! Holy crap, that’s one foxy Korean. I would pay top dollar for an erotic cake that looked like her. Mmmm… erotic cake.

MICHAEL EMERSON OF ‘LOST’ IN 1992 PRISON TRAINING VIDEO

03.03.10 Written by Matt

emerson-then-now

Michael Emerson, better known as Benjamin Linus on “Lost,” first creeped out fans of the show when his character was captured and imprisoned by the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. And though Ben Linus may have been the one in the cell, he turned his captors into quarry with his mind games and creepy eye sockets.

Rewind 18 years, and young Michael Emerson plays Mr. Andrews, a prison counselor to a violent inmate named Higgins in a 1992 training video for prison guards (see video below). It’s a little unsettling. I keep wanting Emerson to mindf*ck Higgins into shooting his cell mate, or for Emerson to be the one in prison, quietly driving the guards insane.

Anyway, it’s worth a watch. But it definitely would’ve been better if Mr. Eko/Adibisi played Higgins.

POSSIBLE ‘LOST’ SPIN-OFF: LOCKE AND BEN AS SUBURBAN HITMEN?

02.25.10 Written by Matt

Okay, that’s kind of a misleading headline, as the proposed series in question wouldn’t be a continuation of “Lost” characters. But two of the hit show’s most compelling actors — Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson — may end up on a new show together. From TV Guide:

Though the show’s executive producers, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, insist they are opposed to any continuation of the series past May’s finale, that hasn’t stopped one Lostie from penning his own spin-off of sorts. Terry O’Quinn, who plays Locke/Smoke Monster, tells me he is shopping around a bible for a TNT-type show that would pair him back up with his real-life chum and on-screen foe, Michael Emerson (Ben) – as suburban hit men juggling family issues. Though Terry asked me not to spill show specifics, he has spoken with Lost creator J.J. Abrams about the project and says, “I really hope this works out because Michael would be in his prime in this. We’d play kind of awkward partners.”

“It’s very sweet of him,” says Michael. “I’m all in favor of it. Any reason to work with Terry again.”

That sounds pretty good, actually. O’Quinn and Emerson are easily two of the best things about “Lost,” right up there with lingering close-ups of Evangeline Lilly. But if they go forward with the show, I hope they hire someone who actually knows something about bear traps.

MICHAEL EMERSON ON ‘THE SOUP’

02.15.10 Written by Matt

soup-emersonEmerson makes his “basic cable” face

Michael Emerson, better known as Benjamin Linus from “Lost,” made an appearance on Friday’s edition of “The Soup” (video below). He did an excellent job of gently poking fun at some of “Lost’s” foibles, like the alternate reality story line and the fact that anyone who dies probably isn’t going to stay dead. And, in a nice little bonus for Warming Glow, the clip that Emerson reacts to is actually the best ownage from last week’s episode of “24,” when Renee goes crazy and stabs everybody before Jack Bauer takes the knife out of his gut and throws it into another guy’s neck. SWEET! (“Lost” fans: please note the way that “24″ fans don’t yell at me for writing a spoiler. It happened a week ago, and I’m allowed to talk about it.)

Also below: BONUS VIDEO! A compilation of the camera-tight-to-the-eyeball scenes from “Lost,” created by Eisentower30. Ordinarily, this kind of video would get its own post, but I’m only working half a day today and there are only so many headlines I’m willing to dedicate to “Lost.” Coming tomorrow: DEAR ‘LOST’ FANATICS, WE GET IT. SHUT UP ALREADY.
