Charice Pempengco, the actress who plays Sunshine Corazon on “Glee,” has backed out of a performance in Singapore after her estranged father was stabbed to death with an ice pick by a drunk vagrant in the Philippines. HOLY SH*T, I did not see that sentence coming.

Her father, 40-year-old construction worker Ricky Pempengco, had been at a small grocery store in San Pedro township south of Manila late Monday when he brushed against a drunk man who became angry and stabbed him with an ice pick in the chest and back, according to the Laguna province police chief, Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz.

A manhunt has been launched for the suspect, with a 20,000 pesos ($470) award for information leading to his arrest. Cruz said the killing appeared random and there was no indication the suspect and victim had any prior grudges. [Yahoo]

Yikes. Between random drunken ice pick murders and Sinatra’s “My Way” getting removed from karaoke playlists because people were getting killed for singing it, I’d put the Philippines slightly ahead of Thailand for “Asian Nation Most Likely to Kill You in a Memorably Unusual Way.” It’s like the Florida of Asia.

Ah, live news bloopers. I don’t think this one is brand new to the Internet, but I hadn’t seen it until today: a news anchor can’t contain her laughter as she details the grisly murder of a woman who was chopped into pieces by her husband. And I had to transcribe this because it’s just too precious not to see in print:

“In Michigan, police have arrested a man suspected of chopping up his wife… The 37-year-old man is accused in the death of his wife, [laughing] Tara Lynn Grant. A torso and body parts [laughing] of who is believed to be the mother of two were found this weekend in and near the Grant home [laughing].”

Oh, stop it, stop it! You’re killing me here! Limbless torso, ha ha ha! Hey, I bet she could model for some ancient Grecian sculpture!  If she weren’t decomposing in the garbage, ha ha! Oh man. Hoooo. But go on. How are her kids doing?
