Romancing the Stone is an important movie: it captured Kathleen Turner in the waning moments of her sex symbol status. (Minutes after filming wrapped, she turned into this. True story.) But as much as I enjoyed the adventure she shared with Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito in 1984, I haven’t exactly been craving more Romancing the Stone. That is most certainly not the case at NBC, which has signed on to remake it as a TV series.

The action-adventure, which starred Turner as a New York romance novelist who goes on a treasure hunt and encouters a bird exporter (Douglas) and antique smuggler (DeVito), is being developed by 20th Century Fox Television and Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) and Marty Adelstein’s 21 Laps/Adelstein Productions.

NBC has ordered a script, to be written by The Forgotten creator Mark Friedman, with Levy attached to direct should his schedule permit.The reboot would follow a woman who teams with a risk-taking adventurer as they go on weekly quests in a bid to find her missing brother. [THR]

Shawn Levy is also the director responsible for Real Steel, a remake of a robot boxing movie that Levy actually called “an incredibly human story.” Basically, what I’m saying is that there’s no possible way this could be a bad TV show.

Last October, ABC announced plans to remake “V,” the creepy alien invasion story from the ’80s that spawned two miniseries and a weekly series.  And now Scott Wolf, best known (read: only known) for his role as Bailey on “Party of Five,” has been cast in the new version.  Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello breathlessly reports:

Scott Wolf has been tapped to star in ABC’s reboot of the campy ’80s drama, V, sources confirm to me exclusively.

It’s believed the Party of Five alum will play the role of Ryan, an extremely good-looking dude who’s harboring a deep, dark secret from his girlfriend.

That secret: HE’S GAY!  Oh, and a reptilian alien that’s part of a secret plot to take over Earth and harvest humans as food.  But his girlfriend will be especially devastated about the gay thing.
