Levi Johnston Wants To Be The Mayor Of Reality TV

08.10.10 Written by Mike

Because the world’s appetite for snowbilly antics will never be sated, noted Palin daughter impregnator Levi Johnston is shopping a reality show that will follow his attempt to run for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, the seat of political power once held by baby mamma’s mamma, Sarah. And, following would-be family tradition, he’ll resign with two years remaining in his term.

Titled “Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor’s Office,” the show will have a three-pronged focus: Johnston vying for the mayor’s office, being a father to Tripp (the child he has with Bristol Palin, with whom he recently split up with) and attempting to pursue a career in Hollywood.

No one has ever accused the Wasilla electorate of being the strongest bolts in the pipeline, but when a mayoral candidate lists his nascent career in show business on par with his duties running your town, it’s probably best to throw your support behind whichever hockey mom is running against him.

I could see Levi having a Goldie Wilson-like moment of enthusiasm over this half-baked idea, but let’s not swear him in just yet.

Networks tend to be surprisingly wary of tabloid figures shopping reality shows (the Octomom, for instance, never landed a series order despite months of press stories about shopping one). Yet the attractive Johnston should be able land a potential buyer or two, particularly among female-targeted cable networks. [Live Feed]

Yeah, because women love guys who knock them up, only to leave and talk smack about their family. Though I can appreciate that cable channels would try to push that ideal on them.

SARAH PALIN JOINS THE DWARF & CAKE CHANNEL

TLC, the channel formerly dedicated to learning but made over to focus on reality fare like “Jon and Kate Plus 8,” “19 Kids and Counting,” “Little People, Big World,” “Cake Boss,” “Ultimate Cake Boss,” “Midget Cakes,” and “Grotesquely Deformed Children,” has landed the much-ballyhooed Sarah Palin reality series, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”

The show has an eight-episode commitment and is expected to premiere later this year at the earliest. The program likely will be as much about Alaska as it is about Palin and her family. With a political career still in the offing, it seems unlikely that she will open the door that wide on the day-to-day life of her family…

No price for the show was released, but reports of a license fee of more than $1 million per episode are over the top, a person close to the project said. [LA Times]

The acquisition marks a new direction for freak-based network, which has other shows about families that don’t use contraception, but none that live in Alaska or have Down syndrome babies. New horizons!

SARAH PALIN’S TV SHOW: ‘IT WILL SELL’

Guhhhhhhhh. Cable networks are interested in buying Sarah Palin’s proposed reality show, tentatively named “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” Said one insider: “It will sell. One way or another.”

Sources say A&E Networks and Discovery Communications want to acquire Palin’s project, which focuses on the ex-governor giving a guided tour of her native Alaska — visiting fishing boats, taking a trip to a gold mine, to cite a couple examples…

A&E Networks hasn’t officially put in a bid for the project, but sources indicate that the company is interested in the project for several of its brands — A&E, History or Lifetime.

Discovery Communications is likewise vying for the project for one or more of its outlets, such as TLC. Some sources say the flagship Discovery Channel is no longer in play, while others say otherwise.

Palin is asking for between $1 million and $1.5 million per episode, a hefty amount for a first-year cable series. [THR]

Eh, put her on TLC with all the dwarves and super-sized families. She’ll fit right in with the channel’s theme of “21st century freak show.” They could even put her in a cage that says “Inexplicable Political Phenomenon” or “Eerily Lifelike Talking Points Robot.” As long as she’s in a cage, that’s the important part.
