Yesterday, NBC picked up a pilot order for a new project starring indie-comedy darling Sarah Silverman, potentially adding it to a lineup that also includes shows by Whitney Cummings (“Whitney”) and Chelsea Handler (“Are You There, Chelsea?”). NBC: Your one stop shop for attractive female comedians joking about their ladyparts! Deadline has some of the details of the new Silverman project:

The half-hour, from 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV, is a pet project of Imagine principal Ron Howard. Loosely based on Silverman’s life, the untitled single-camera comedy stars the comedian as a woman readjusting to the single life after a decade-long live-in relationship. Silverman wrote the script with Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder, who were writer-producers on her self-titled Comedy Central series.

You know how in your group of friends there’s always that one person who everyone else loves, but they kind of rub you the wrong way? Like, they’re nice, and you get along with them, but not nearly as much as the rest of the group? That’s the way I am with Sarah Silverman. As I’ve said before, I’m a pretty big indie/alternative comedy dork (my iTunes is pretty much stuffed with weird, offbeat podcasts). Sarah Silverman is almost universally beloved in that crowd, but she just doesn’t do it for me all the time. I honestly can’t even figure out why. I mean, I’ll definitely give this new show a shot, but I’m not exactly clearing out my DVR in anticipation.

Although, some are speculating that NBC’s decision to pick up this show is bad news for “Whitney.” If that is the case, then please disregard everything I said in the previous paragraph. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Not content with Seth Rogen guest starring as Dirty Randy, “The League” has added two more big-name guest stars: Sarah Silverman and Jeff Goldblum.

They’ll join a Thanksgiving episode of the comedy series, with Silverman playing Andre’s (Paul Scheer) sister and Jeff Goldblum as Ruxin’s (Nick Kroll) father. “Sarah and Jeff are funny and fearless enough to play Andre’s sister and Ruxin’s father,” said League co-creators Jeff Schaffer and Jackie Marcus Schaffer. “And they didn’t flinch when we told them all of the crazy things they’d be doing with our cast. Fools!” [EW]

Silverman’s a divisive personality among comedy snobs, but I usually enjoy her. And I particularly like Goldblum. For someone so innately funny, he doesn’t do a lot of comedy. I mean, he’s done plenty of comedy throughout his career (“NTSF” and “Colbert” most recently), just not enough for my liking. Dance, monkey! Make me laugh!

In a move that comes as no surprise, Comedy Central has canceled “The Sarah Silverman Program” after three seasons. The details:

The show earned Silverman a lead actress Emmy nomination last year. But it also was on the brink of cancellation in 2009 when she and fellow executive producers Dan Sterling and Rob Schrab threatened to quit after the cable network asked them to slash the series’ budget by more than 20%. A last-minute deal with sister network Logo was reached to co-finance the series, so a 10-episode third season was ordered. But midway through Season 3, which wrapped last month, the network bumped the series from 10:30 PM to midnight, hinting at its intention not to continue with Sarah.

I think I’m one of the few people on the planet who isn’t polarized by Silverman. I thoroughly enjoyed Jesus Is Magic, but I don’t always like her comedy. I don’t think she’s hot, but she’s not unattractive, either. And that’s how I felt about “The Sarah Silverman Program,” too. I didn’t dislike watching it, but I certainly never felt compelled to watch it.

And that’s not a knock on Silverman: plenty of other comics have had shows with shorter runs — Louis CK and Jeff Dunham, for example. I mean, how could Comedy Central not stick with “The Jeff Dunham Show”? Don’t you get it? That stupid Muslim terrorist was a skeleton! Ha ha, it’s funny because I hate foreigners.

I love this. The Hollywood Reporter put together a roundtable of the Emmy nominees for Best Actress in a Comedy Series — Amy Poehler, Sarah Silverman, Christina Applegate, Jane Krakowski, Mary-Louise Parker, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus — and had ‘em rap about thangs. I like this first clip best because it’s mostly Silverman being funny and people complimenting Mary-Louise, but there are two more below that talk about women aging in Hollywood (Poehler’s the youngest at 37) and Christina Applegate’s role in “Married with Children” that I just find fascinating and funny. It’s cool to see these established entertainers talk about their work schedules and struggles and successes and failures.

My only complaint is that Mary-Louise Parker and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are sitting next to each other. Don’t they realize how hard it is to keep my hyphenated names straight? Why not just line them up with Mary Lou Retton and Richard Lewis and Richard Dreyfus and see who can make the most complex name? I vote for Mary Lou-Louise Louis-Lewis. Richard Dreyfus can get bent. (via Videogum)
