Site News: The Comments Change, And That’s Just The Way It Is

01.30.12 Written by Danger Guerrero

I know it probably feels like we’re giving you an update on various changes to the comments or site every other week, but these are exciting times here at Uproxx, and things are changing for the better. I’m especially excited about the features we’re rolling out here, as they’ll make things more interactive (giving us the ability to do live blogs during shows like the Uproxx mothership does for “Archer”), and give me another location to post videos of rap and R&B songs from the mid-to-late 1990s. I think that’s important.

Let’s discuss them after the jump, shall we?

Happy Holidays From Warming Glow

12.23.11 Written by Danger Guerrero

I had every intention of slapping together another big Corgi Friday post, or maybe a video of some dogs running around doing Christmas-y things, but then two important things happened this week: First of all, I got lazy. Seriously, SO lazy. You don’t even know. The second thing was that the Puppy Christmas video below absolutely blew up, and I realized it would have been, like, super hard to top it, so I chose to not even try. It’s like that old saying, “When the going gets tough, maybe just go to Dunkin Donuts or something.” I think that was Descartes. Wise dude.

Anyway, on behalf of the rest of the Warming Glow staff, I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and/or other religious/secular seasonal holiday. We’re closing down the shop for the long weekend, but we’ll be back at it Tuesday morning all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Or at least bleary-eyed and regular-tailed. As far as what to watch on TV between now and then, I recommend alternating between A Muppet Christmas Carol and Die Hard. Beyond that, you’re on your own. Feel free to make your own recommendations in the comments.

So, until Tuesday, be safe, be healthy, and if you see Santa, tell him he still owes me those nunchucks from 1991. Don’t think I’ve forgotten, fat man.

Site News: New Ways To Annoy Each Other

12.22.11 Written by Danger Guerrero

Hear ye, hear ye! Sayeth the throne, "Please don't be creeps!"

A ways back, when Uproxx first started rolling out its new layout and commenting system, I promised you all that there would be exciting features like threaded replies and direct messaging. Well, GUESS WHAT? That stuff is HERE. Now you have newer and more efficient ways to yell at each other about which celebrity and/or show and/or political ideology is, like totally dumb all the time. Huzzah for discourse!

In all honesty, this should really improve the commenting experience at Uproxx. Replying to someone who commented a page or two above you was unwieldy, and made more for clunky, disjointed conversations. Now you can just click the reply button under the comment and keep each discussion in its own little tidy area. Also, now you have the ability to send private, direct messages to each other. If you have an account, all you have to do is click on someone’s avatar and then find the little box in the top right of their Recent Comments box that says Send Message. And when someone sends you a message, you’ll receive an email at the address you registered with, and you can reply directly from your inbox. Or you can just check your profile thingy at the top right of the Warming Glow homepage. It’s super easy. So easy, in fact, that I’m already looking forward to all of your drunken messages about the various ways I did or did not ruin this site.

In conclusion, here is a picture of a baby polar bear. Have a blessed day.

A Message From Your New Staff

12.01.11 Written by Danger Guerrero

Don't worry, Uproxx tech support is helping us iron out the kinks

Good morning, and welcome to Warming Glow 2.0. On behalf of the staff, thank you for coming here to check out the new, scary world of a Matt-less site. We are all extremely excited to have the opportunity to blabber to you about television in short, 300-word bursts throughout the day, often under a large picture of an animal wearing clothes. Our high school guidance counselors are all very, very proud. I’m sure there will be some minor kinks over the next few weeks, but I promise you that we will do everything in our power to make the transition go as smoothly as possible. We appreciate your calm, rational response to these hiccups, and your willingness to hang in there with us as we figure it all out.

[1000 flaming arrows light up the sky]

But enough about that, let’s get into the most important issue: What does this all mean for you? Allow me to walk you through some of the changes you’ll undoubtedly notice over the next few weeks. As Matt mentioned in his farewell announcement, the site will be staffed by a team of writers instead of headed by one editorial voice. Most of the heavy lifting, at least in the short term, will be done by Dustin Rowles of Pajiba, Warming Glow Listmaster General Josh Kurp, and me, your friendly neighborhood Danger Guerrero. We’ll be using this team effort to bring you not only the same steady diet of TV news, dogs, and GIFs that you’ve grown accustomed to, but hopefully more TV-related features and multi-page posts throughout the week. (Sample: 10 Reasons Jeff from “Saved by the Bell” Was A Total Dingus.) YAY! MORE WORDS!

Lindy West will also be joining the staff as a feature contributor. What we’d really like to do is start an “Ask Lindy” mailbag, where she answers your various television questions. I’m especially looking forward to this because Lindy is, like, a girl. A real one! With ladyparts and everything! EEK! It’ll be very nice to have a new, female perspective on the site, so feel free to send all your questions to her at lindy@lindywest.net. She is very much looking forward to your queries about Lifetime Original Movies, “Glee,” and whether or not she will send you pictures of her feet. (Note: Please do not do this, creeps.)

Perhaps most importantly, I want to promise all of you that Corgi Friday will not be going anywhere. I will be inheriting the feature, and handling it personally on a weekly basis. It became a beloved aspect of the site under Matt — justifiably so — and it would be incredibly cruel to take that away from you. Those cute, stubby-legged furballs have become Warming Glow’s spirit animal, and they will continue to be a part of the site as long as I have breath in my lungs and a working login. I’ll also be handling the Warming Glow Twitter and Facebook pages, so I’ll be your de facto point man on interaction. We’re still working out access to the Warming Glow tips inbox, so in the interim, you can send tips, stories, or angry diatribes about how we ruined the site to me at DangerGuerrero@gmail.com. (Please do not ask me for pictures of my feet either, creeps.)

In conclusion, thanks again. We’re just as nervous about all this as you are.

So Long and Thanks for All the Puppies

11.28.11 Written by Matt

Good news and bad news, people. The good news is that Warming Glow’s staff of writers is about to get much better. The bad news is that there may be a slight decline in dog-centric Photoshops. Effective Thursday, December 1st, I’m stepping down as the editor of Warming Glow. There are many reasons for the move, but the single greatest is this: I’m tired. I’ve been blogging full-time for more than five years, and I need to do something different — something that involves leaving the house and interacting with other human beings in a manner that doesn’t involve this keyboard.

Though I’m sad to leave Warming Glow before it reaches its fully realized state of entertainment industry domination, I’m thrilled to announce the new staff of regulars who will satisfy your need for TV news and viral videos:
