Real-Life Cartman: RESPECT HIS AUTHORITAH

02.06.12 Written by Dustin Rowles

While prosthetic images of what Beavis and Butthead might look like in real life are terrifying, the image of a real-life Cartman is kind of sad. But before you criticize me for exploiting this guy, note that — according to the poster on Reddit — he intentionally dresses this way, and he welcomes photographs. Moreover, “he’s a very funny, intelligent and genuine person that takes life in a humorous manner,” which means that he’s probably a very good sport about it. You kind of have to be if your “thing” is dressing up like Cartman every day.

Boo Internet Censorship, Yay Internet Freedom: The Anti-SOPA Meme

01.18.12 Written by Josh

How many times have you gone to Wikipedia today, only to get their “Imagine a World without Free Knowledge” message? It’s happened to me four times already (I STILL don’t know the complete biographical background on the dad from “Webster”), and I’m pretty sure it’ll occur nine more times before the day’s out. But I’m not mad; I can wait to know what movies were shot in South Dakota. It’s for a good cause.

Today is SOPA Day on the Internet. Hundreds of websites, including Wikipedia and Reddit, are protesting the very bad Stop Online Piracy and Protect IP acts because, well, they’re very bad. Matt wrote about it back in November, and Señor Fancy Lawyer Man Danger Guerrero would like to add:

I can’t stress strongly enough to all of you how terrible the whole SOPA/PIPA thing is…Not only will this bill throw a giant wrench into the Internet, it also has SERIOUS Constitutional ramifications. It gives mass copyright holders (Disney, record companies, Viacom, etc.) the ability to restrict people’s speech and take away their property (websites) without due process.

That’s my favorite kind of process! So, contact your local representative and tell them, SOPA STINKS. After you’ve done that – ONLY after you’ve done that – check back here to see how the Internet has been reacting to the threat of censorship, through the use of TV shows and characters. I’ve added a few of my own, as should you. Find an image, add text here, and copy the link in the comments. We’ll include the best in the slideshow.

What’s on Tonight: ‘South Park’ Finale

11.16.11 Written by Matt

South Park (Comedy Central) — Season finale. Kenny and his siblings land in a foster home, which of course reminds me of one of the best “Simpsons” episodes of all time. “Stupid babies need the most attention!”

The Middle (ABC) — I can’t remember a time when I’ve ever put this show in the listings. But Norm MacDonald guest stars tonight as “Uncle Rusty,” and that’s good enough for me to make note of it. Not enough to watch it, mind you, but enough to acknowledge its existence.

Up All Night (NBC) — Molly Shannon guest stars as Christina Applegate’s inept assistant.

Law & Order: SVU (NBC) — A mental patient claims he witnessed a rape, but the alleged victim, guest star Natasha Lyonne, says it never happened. If it was the real world: case closed, cops move on. I suspect the “SVU” outcome is different.

Suburgatory (ABC) — This show’s starting to lose me. I like Jeremy Sisto and Cheryl Hines, and the Emma Stone impostor playing Sisto’s daughter is good, but “Suburgatory’s” woefully short on actual JOKES. If you’re going to do the 30-minute dramedy thing, at least air it on Showtime so I know to avoid it.

LATE NIGHT GUESTS: Jerry Seinfeld on Letterman; Robin Williams and Maria Bello on Leno; Tim Allen on Kimmel; Michael Ian Black on Ferguson; Martin Short, Kermit & Miss Piggy, and Michael Stipe on Fallon; and Snooki and Rob Riggle on Conan.

Three More Years for ‘South Park’

11.16.11 Written by Matt

“South Park” will enter the rarefied air of two decades of longevity, as Comedy Central’s latest renewal will keep Trey Parker and Matt Stone in business for another three years of no-holds-barred juvenile satire beyond its current deal.

[Parker and Stone] have closed a new deal with Comedy Central for three more seasons of South Park. The pact will keep the series on through 2016, extending its run to 20 seasons. Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of South Park, as they have since the series’ premiere in 1997. [Deadline]

I’ve been trying make myself have an opinion about this, but I just can’t conjure one up. Parker and Stone are absolutely fearless and should be celebrated for creating some of the edgiest satire on TV over the years, so in that regard this is great. On the other hand, I don’t find “South Park” as funny as a lot of other people do because I tend to get annoyed by the characters’ voices and the lousy animation. Yes, I understand that’s part of the show’s charm. Yes, I understand that the lousy animation allows for quick reactions to current events. Stop telling me why it’s great and let me have an opinion, okay? Why do people still try to change my mind about a show that I’ve watched on and off for the last 14 years?

What’s on Tonight: South Park Thanksgiving

11.09.11 Written by Matt

South Park (Comedy Central) — The boys learn the true story of Thanksgiving. Is it wrong that I want to see terrible animation of Pilgrims and Indians slaughtering each other?

Vietnam in HD (History) — If this is one-eighth as awesome as “WWII in HD,” this will be the best thing on TV tonight.

Psych (USA) — Wade Boggs and Danny Glover guest star in this baseball-themed episode.

45th Annual CMA Awards (ABC) — That’s right, it’s the Country Music Award Awards! Hosted by Paisley and Carrie Underwood, with performances by Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker (Hootie!) and appearances by a bunch of blonde chicks that all look the same.

American Horror Story (FX) — There’s no new “Modern Family” tonight, but Eric Stonestreet (Cam) guest stars on TV’s kinkiest hot mess. “American Horror Story” is like Lindsay Lohan when she was still a hot redhead, but after she started drinking and doing cocaine. Just imagine what it’s gonna be like in three years.
