Today In ‘Mad Men’ Mashups

01.23.12 Written by Danger Guerrero

With “Mad Men” set to return in just over two months (SQUEEEEEEE), it should come as no surprise that the Internet as a collective has already grabbed its beakers and Bunsen burners and run off to its laboratory to start creating all sorts of mashups and assorted content related to the show. Over the weekend, we were treated to two especially good examples of this mad scientizing (official term). The first, via Buzzfeed, is the above video inserting Darth Vader and the Stars Wars theme into the “Mad Men” title sequence. It’s a cool idea, and it’s executed pretty well, unlike the last three Star Wars films (BOOM)(okay, fine, I haven’t seen any of them)(still, BOOM).

The other piece of “Mad Men” magic we were introduced to over the weekend was the Tumblr Sterling Archer Draper Pryce, which features images from “Mad Men” combined with quotes from “Archer,” and vice versa. Internet, if you’re reading this, allow me to paraphrase a notable Miami detective when I say, “Now THAT’S how you supposed to mash-up! From now on, that’s how you mash-up! Oh man, I want my next Tumblr to mash-up like that. WOOOOO… it takes a dysfunctional motherf-cker to mash-up two shows like that. That’s some dysfunctional sh-t! [writes profanity-free rap song about it, puts entire family in the music video]

I’ve included a few of my favorite Sterling Archer Draper Pryce images after the jump, including one made by the geniuses at the Uproxx mothership. Enjoy.

Weekend Preview: Lego Star Wars!

07.22.11 Written by Matt

Lego Star Wars (Cartoon Network, Friday) — Ummm, is it wrong that I think this looks kinda good? I’ve put a preview for it at the bottom of the post — it’s like a more serious version of the “Robot Chicken” spoofs, but with LEGO characters. Shut up, I played with LEGO a lot growing up.

Torchwood: Miracle Day (Starz, Friday) — Yes, I’m deliberately tailoring this weekend preview to win the approval of geeks. Acknowledge my pandering!

Attack of the Show (G4, Friday) — This is the one time of year where “AotS” is actually relevant: when it reports from Comic-Con in San Diego.

Breaking Bad (AMC, Sunday) — *breathes into paper bag*

NTSF:SD:SUV:: (Adult Swim, Sunday) — I neglected to mention that the series premiere of this crime procedural spoof — and logical companion to “Children’s Hospital” — aired last night, so I’m putting this here with the hope that I remember to DVR one of the two replays on Sunday night.

George Lucas Has Two Seasons of ‘Star Wars’ TV Show Written

05.31.11 Written by Matt

There’s long been talk of a live-action “Star Wars” TV show, and George Lucas has completed 50 hours’ worth of scripts for the project. Thankfully, the technology needed to make the show a reality doesn’t exist yet.

Lucas told G4TV, the techie cable channel, that — in TV terms — he has scripts for two seasons of the new “Star Wars” series already written. But the series is awaiting the development of “a different type of technology we can use so it’s economically feasible to shoot the shows.” He did not say what the breakthrough would do, only that it was “just a very, very difficult process.” [NY Post]

If the notion of Lucas, the man who made Indiana Jones and the Magic Alien Skull and Buried Spaceship, making a “Star Wars” TV show doesn’t terrify you, perhaps you need to remember that he said the series would be “Deadwood meets The Sopranos in space” and could go on for twenty years. At this point, the only difference between George Lucas and a rambling homeless derelict is the hundreds of millions of dollars Lucas has. Also, hobos don’t eat cats.

More like Honda Solo, am I right

This may be the cutest car commercial of all time. It may also serve as a more sensible, emotionally gripping prequel to the Star Wars franchise than at least Attack of the Clones.
