‘Twilight for Poor Kids’ Trailer

08.20.10 Written by Matt

This is the trailer for the second season of the CW’s “Vampire Diaries,” also known as “Twilight for Poor Kids” and not to be confused with “Twilight for Sluts” (HBO’s “True Blood”). If I remember correctly from last year, two vampire brothers fall in love with the same girl who looks like the same girl they both fell in love with, like, 200 years earlier. It’s kind of hard to keep everything straight because all of the characters look exactly the same. The vampire brothers are both blandly attractive, and the only reason one of them might stand out is if you remember Ian Somerhalder as Boone from “Lost.” The girls are both pretty brunettes with long hair, and I can’t tell which one’s Elena and which one’s Katherine. Sure, it doesn’t help that I don’t care, but I still feel like I’m in the streets of Tokyo.

THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS HAPPENED

01.07.10 Written by Matt

The People’s Choice Awards were held last night, and as you can tell from last night’s What’s On Tonight, I either wasn’t aware of them or didn’t care to mention their existence. (Hint: it was both.) Anyway, Queen Latifah hosted for the fourth consecutive year, and absolutely nothing surprising about what the populace likes was revealed. Which is to say: vampire crap won lots of awards.

“Twilight” won four trophies, including favourite movie, franchise and on-screen team for the dreamy trio of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, who also picked up the breakout male actor award.

The undead HBO fable “True Blood” and the soapy supernatural CW series “The Vampire Diaries” were respectively selected as favourite TV obsession and favourite new TV drama.

The full list of winners is here, and aside from the vampire stuff, it’s a fairly even mix of things that make me feel ill and worried about society (Favorite Comedy Movie: The Proposal) and things that give me the faintest glimmer of hope (Favorite TV Drama: “House” over “CSI” and “NCIS”). So the end result is a faint feeling of nausea tempered by apathy. Which makes this a pretty average day.

‘VAMPIRE DIARIES’ MIGHT BE GOOD AFTER ALL

This story is kinda last week’s news, but it involves attractive young actresses getting arrested for baring their breasts to strangers, which in my mind makes it still newsworthy. Hot handcuffed tit-flashing starlets are precisely why I got into this business.

Anyway, “The Vampire Diaries” opened with CW’s highest-rated series premiere last week, and actresses Candice Accola, Kayla Ewell, Sara Canning, and Nina Dobrev (clockwise from top left, not that it matters) all celebrated by getting booked for disorderly conduct:

[The actresses] were arrested and charged after police said the actresses were dangling off a Georgia overpass and flashing drivers. Several drivers called 911 on Aug. 22 to report seeing the young women flashing drivers on I-75 from the side of the Rumble Road overpass just north of Macon. The women told Monroe County authorities they were just filming for the show. [WSBTV]

Really? People actually called freakin’ 911 to report tits? How does that 911 call go? “Oh God! It’s terrible! Hot, nubile women are flashing me! There are BARE BREASTS above the highway! I’m dangerously aroused! Oh God, send all the police and ambulances you have!  THE HUMANITY!!!!!”
