An actor who appeared on “Ugly Betty” was heard angrily reciting Bible passages before he killed his mother with a samurai sword last night. Michael Brea, 31, who had bit parts on the ABC show and Step Up: 3-D, delivered fatal stab wounds to Yannick Brea, 55, during a late-night stand-off with the cops in the Prospect Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

When Emergency Services cops arrived, they knocked down the door to the apartment about 2:20 a.m. and found a gruesome scene, with Yannick kneeling in the bathroom with multiple stab wounds to her head. [NY Post]

According to the police, the suspect sliced his mother’s head off during the attack. When cops arrived to the scene around 2:20 AM, officers say Brea was clutching the bible. Cops ultimately had to use a taser to subdue the actor. Brea was taken to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation with a police escort. Police claim the scene was “extremely bloody.” [TMZ]

I think we all know what’s to blame for this tragedy: “Ugly Betty.” Maybe Hollywood will learn its lesson and start making shows with attractive protagonists.

South Park (Comedy Central) — When I pointed out that the 200th episode sounded just like the “Seinfeld” finale, one commenter was like, “You don’t get it! That’s the point!” Well, if that’s the case, Trey Parker and Matt Stone couldn’t possibly be playing it off any more subtly, as the boing boing video above shows. Also: the top 13 “South Park” episodes.

Ugly Betty (ABC) — Series finale. While I say “good riddance,” some people out there are actually willing to give it a loving eulogy. “The most unapologetically gay hourlong show ever on network TV.” Not any more, chump. “Glee” stole that title.

Human Target (Fox) — Season finale. Supposedly this ends with a pretty watchable cliffhanger; we’ll see if that affects its status as a “bubble show” in danger of getting canceled.

Modern Family (ABC) — New episode, yay!

Worse Than War (PBS) — A documentary about genocide. Get your Holocaust jokes ready!

650-lb Virgin (TLC) — It’s a repeat, yet I’m compelled to include in tonight’s listings. Like, how shocking. It’s so hard to believe that someone who weighs 650 pounds has never had sex.

These are the first pictures from “Ugly Betty” of America Ferrera without her braces (via TV Addict). And whaddaya know, it turns out Ugly Betty is only Hollywood ugly. I’m sorry, I know I’ve talked about this before, but I’m never going to get over the wrong-ness of taking an attractive young Latina woman, then not brushing her hair and giving her braces, glasses, and godawful clothes. “Because you see, little girls, that’s what it takes to survive in the fashion industry!” It’s f*cking stupid. She had braces for three and half years! Your orthodontist is swindling you, you goddam retard.

And yeah, I understand the point: Her individualism is what makes her pretty, and she succeeds in a cutthroat industry because she’s true to herself, blah blah blah. It’s complete fantasy. That would be like a show about a fat, out of shape slob in the Marine Corps who wears sweatpants and a stained white t-shirt instead of a uniform, but he gets promoted because he’s such a good person. No. Life doesn’t work that way.

“Ugly Betty” is crap and I hate it and I’m glad it got canceled. I guess there isn’t a joke there, but I don’t see anything funny about celebrating ugly people.

As much as possible, I try to avoid making fun of the Hollywood media, because it’s such a vast collection of whores and idiots that if I regularly dabbled in media criticism, eventually this blog would do nothing but focus on what a grating bitch Nikki Finke is and how Variety’s lingo instantly lowers your IQ.

However, every now and then I like to have fun with the foibles of flamboyant simpleton Michael Ausiello, who was actually serious when he wrote this headline:

Now, stop and think about that for a second: Kathy Najimy. “Ugly Betty.” Historic. Exclusive. All in the same headline.

To flesh that out a little: Najimy, whose most famous role remains “the chubby nun” in 1992′s Sister Act, landed a guest appearance on a show so unpopular that its final season was just shortened by two episodes, and that is HISTORIC, people. And it’s an exclusive, so just go ahead and suck on THAT, other TV reporters who were trying to break this story about Najimy’s historic role. Oh, and did I mention that the role is the orthodontist who removes the braces that Betty has worn for the last, like, seven years? Get it? Kathy Najimy is BRACING for the role?

Honestly, I’m not even mad. I’m actually kind of impressed that someone so joyously dimwitted can rise to a level of prominence in any industry. Of course, if it had to be any industry, Hollywood sounds about right.

Good news, everyone! The present season of “Ugly Betty” will be its last. This news comes from breathless retard Michael Ausiello, who constantly provides breaking news and SPOILER ALERTS about this crappy show that no one watches.

ABC has just informed Ugly Betty producers that the show’s current fourth season will be its last.  What’s more, the network has trimmed Betty’s episode order from 22 to 20.

Although not a complete shock given the show’s heinous ratings, the news is nonetheless a total bummer [not really -Ed.] — particularly in light of Betty’s creative resurgence this season.

The good news is that ABC has given Betty’s bosses enough time to craft a satisfying series finale [everyone dies?].

Just so we’re all on the same page here: “Ugly Betty” is about an unattractive girl with terrible fashion sense who works for a fashion magazine. Sorry, but if I wanted to see an unrealistic portrayal of a dying industry, I’d draw pictures of heterosexual steel workers.

As a TV viewer, I’m cool with green screen technology. I’m well aware that production teams don’t set up real explosions that the actors must jump away from to avoid the heat and shrapnel, although I’d appreciate it if they did, especially if that explosion was an unscripted one on the set of “Entourage.” But this excellent video lifts the curtain on just how much green screen is used in television. Like, there’s on scene from “Ugly Betty” where America Ferrera runs face first into a bus stop, only the bus stop is added with green screen technology. COME ON. I understand it’s expensive to do location shoots, but IT’S A BUS STOP. I’m probably the laziest person on the Eastern Seaboard, and even I’m like, “C’mon guys, go ahead and go outside.”

My biggest gripe about “Ugly Betty” — other than the completely false premise that someone with horrible fashion taste would succeed in the cutthroat world of fashion magazines — is that the America Ferrara’s character has been wearing gigantic steel braces for three years even though no adult wears braces like that, or for that long (see here).  And now dentists in the UK have totally got my back.

According to dentists train track braces are very seldom prescribed to adults and even then are not worn for more than two years.  British orthodontists said they were worried the programme could discourage young viewers from seeking corrective dental treatment.

Those crazy Brits, always looking for excuse to have terrible teeth.

Tracey Posner, of the British Orthodontic society, said: “It is irresponsible of the programme makers to portray Betty as ‘ugly’ because she wears prominent braces. Ugly Betty is in its third year on our TV screens and Betty remains in over-exaggerated, heavy ‘train-track’ braces.  This is not a true reflection of orthodontic practice. It is highly unlikely an adult would wear braces beyond two years.”

There you have it.  Vindication.  Finally, some professional experts have backed me up on this exposé.  We’ve revealed that something on TV is not 100% the way it is in the real world. My work here is done.
