‘Weekend Update’ Reunion: Fallon, Fey, Poehler, & Meyers Play Charades

Tina Fey was a guest on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” last night, and her old “Weekend Update” co-anchor roped her into playing charades against another SNL team: Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers (Of course, the best “Weekend Update” team among this crowd was Poehler and Fey, but they didn’t team up in Charades.)

Video is below, and I have to credit Fallon & the “Late Night” team: the idea of watching people play Charades sounds completely stupid to me, but this is actually really entertaining. I got some good laughs out of this. None of them come from Seth Meyers, but there’s nothing unusual about that.

(Also: Is Amy Poehler pregnant again? Man, Will Arnett is wearin’ that out.)

AMY POEHLER IS COMING BACK TO SNL!!!!

07.30.09 Written by Matt

Hey everybody!  Look at me!  I’m an overly excitable TV writer!  My headline told you that Amy Poehler is returning to “Saturday Night Live”!  And she is!  Totally!  EXCLUSIVE!!!   Oh, except it’s not “Saturday Night Live,” but the SNL “Weekend Update Thursday” that leads into Poehler’s “Parks and Recreation.”  And only for two weeks.

In conclusion, Amy Poehler actually isn’t returning to “Saturday Night Live” at all.  It’s a two-episode guest stint on another show to promote her current starring vehicle.  But man, wasn’t it fun to break out into a breathless sweat for no reason?

‘WEEKEND UPDATE’ COMING TO THURSDAYS

05.04.09 Written by Matt

Really?  Really, NBC?  The network is expected to order a 30-minute version of “Saturday Night Live’s” cornerstone sketch, “Weekend Update,” for its fall schedule.

“SNL” star Seth Meyers will also host this primetime version, which will receive an order of at least six and as many as 13 episodes. NBC also hopes to have former “Update” stars Tina Fey (currently starring in “30 Rock”) and Amy Poehler (“Parks And Recreation”) make appearances on the specials. [source]

This is an excellent idea.  I can’t think of how many times I’ve thought to myself, “You know, those ‘SNL’ writers just have TOO MUCH material — if only there was another outlet for their non-stop output of comedy.”

Did you catch my sarcasm there?  Sometimes I gotta lay it on thick when I write, because you can’t see me rolling  my eyes and doing the dismissive wanking  motion while I type.  And it’s not easy to type and air-wank at the same time.
