‘Bored to Death’ Season 3 Trailer

08.15.11 Written by Matt

Below is the trailer for Season 3 of “Bored to Death,” HBO’s flawed but charming noir-detective comedy. I’ve listed my complaints about Jason Schwartzman and the angle the show takes for his writer-turned-amateur-private-dick before, but that can’t stop Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson from making the show enjoyable, especially for an unabashed Brooklyn-phile such as myself.

The trailer has little (perhaps nothing) to offer of the coming season, but it does have Schwartzman & Danson & Galifianakis screwing around on Coney Island set to a Beastie Boys soundtrack. That’s about as good of a plug for a Brooklyn-based show that you’re going to get. The highlights of me going to Coney Island aren’t nearly as exciting — it would be an hour of me sitting on the Q train, and then a time-lapse of me getting fatter as I went to Nathan’s three times in four hours. Whatever, those cheese fries are worth it.

Zach Galifianakis Got A Mr. T Haircut

03.14.11 Written by Matt

The last time Zach Galifianakis hosted “Saturday Night Live,” he shaved his beard for the show’s final sketch. This time around, he got a Mr. T haircut during the final commercial break (watch backstage video below). I pity the fool who sat through both of Jessie J’s performances.

As for the rest of the episode, this is going to shock you: there were some memorable laughs and also some terrible sketches. That has never happened before, except for every week for the last 30 years. I’ve got the applicable videos below. And yes, they’re Hulu videos. Sorry, non-Americans. Please send your hate mail to Hulu.

‘SNL’ Promos Actually Funny For Once

03.09.11 Written by Matt

Zach Galifianakis will host this weekend’s episode of “Saturday Night Live,” and in a stirring departure from established protocol, NBC’s promos for the show are actually kind of funny (video below). Of course, that depends on whether you like Zach’s ability to twist an awkward situation for laughs, but it worked for me, and let’s face it: that’s what really matters.

As a side note, the musical guest is someone or something called Jessie J. I have no idea who or what that is because I’m old and ignorant of the things that young people like. But I’m willing to bet that I’ll hate Jessie J’s music. Why, in my day, musicians had last names! Like Glenn Miller, now that was an entertainer who could keep me up past 10 p.m.!

Jimmy Fallon, Zach G, & Fake Arms

11.04.10 Written by Matt

A lot of people bag on Jimmy Fallon because they hated him on “SNL” or had the misfortune to see one of his movies. But one of the things he does well as a late-night host is rope his guests into doing silly crap. With last night’s first guest Zach Galifianakis, the two pretended to look back on their days working together on a Canadian soap opera called “Jacob’s Patience,” and the gag is that Galifianakis — because he’s a diva — refused to act with his own arms. (He takes arm safety very seriously.)

The video’s below, and while it runs long at eight minutes, it’s still worth it to watch them try to play pool with mannequin arms. And to hear Zach say “Cal GARY” instead of “Calgary.” Of course, I’m a little biased. I’d probably laugh my ass off watching Galifianakis go grocery shopping.

Zach Galifianakis Smoked a Joint on TV

11.01.10 Written by Matt

Zach Galifianakis made news this weekend by smoking a joint on “Real Time with Bill Maher.” It was to make a political point about the upcoming vote on legalization in California, of course. He certainly doesn’t seem like the sort of person who would smoke pot recreationally.
